On Wednesday May 21st our student focus welcomes you!
What is the aim?
The event will offer analyses and strategies focusing on public engagements, including educational initiatives, fundraising campaigns and volunteering.
How do I know if this is for me?
Students are often encouraged to be global active citizens and to create change! This workshop offers an opportunity for you to explore these concepts on a deeper level with your fellow students and guest facilitators with exciting experiences and research on this topic. If you have ever thought about volunteering abroad or you currently lead activism projects, this day is for you! We welcome all students with a wide range of experience to come along and share in the process of addressing local and global inequalities. Access to international scholars through this workshop will be interactive and fun, plus we get to enjoy yummy food together.
How do I register?
Register here on our event blog with your lunch preferences. Unfortunately participant numbers are extremely limited, so sign up today!
What should I expect?
First off this workshop is for you! When you register we will ask you to share your expectations and learning needs and we will do our best to accommodate. You will leave this workshop with hands on practical things that can help you. Our fantastic facilitators will be discussing some of the following themes:
• Reproducing local/global injustices through images and words
• Developing socially accountable communication strategies
• Representations of poverty, distress, violence and trauma
• Ethical witnessing of suffering and trauma
• Public engagements with difficult knowledge
• Ethical solidarities, partnerships and representing with indigenous and marginalized communities
